Lexicon 5 - Professional dictionary software
Layout of entries
Clear layout of entries is the key factor when it comes to convenient use of any dictionary. Entries in our Lexicon are clearly arranged, each sense and example starts on a new line. Different colours and fonts are used for headwords, pronunciations, parts of speech, irregular forms, translations, examples, grammatical notes and verb constructions. When double-clicking on any entry, you get its back-translation, returned either as a full entry or a brief view.
Our dictionaries offer a unique feature – fast and sophisticated search for entries. Words can be entered or pasted from other applications in any of its inflected forms, regardless of case, number, tense or mood. When you enter the English word broken, the dictionary will find break, when entering German ist , it will find sein, and when entering French parlions, parler will be found. You will surely appreciate it when working with the Internet or reading e-mails.
Once you activate this function, you do not have to type whole words any longer. After typing at least three letters, a pop-up window, featuring entries with the same letters, appears to the right of the request box.
Full text search
Apart from single entries even search of whole phrases are possible. It is possible to enter phrases like “break in, compare to, despite of, etc.” Lexicon looks for relevant entries or examples in the whole dictionary. Thanks to that you will get more possible results for given word or phrase. Try to enter in the English dictionary the phrase “compared to” and Lexicon will show you even translations which you might not think of. This feature can become a real helper when translating.
Full text search can be further adjusted or become more accurate by adding area, indication or word form. You can easily find all rude words, or all conjunctions this way. Click on the icon of magnifier with a green cross in the upper left corner in the window of the dictionary and a dialog window will be opened in where you can enter the area/field you are looking for, such as: law, history, engineering, etc.
If you work with foreign dictionaries, you may not know the right spelling of a word. In these particular cases, phonetic search will come handy. You can type in the word in the form of pronunciation and Lexicon will show you the closest words from which you can choose the one you’re looking for. This function can be activated by clicking on the icon of magnifier in the upper left corner above the search field and ticking “phonetic search”.
Automatic spell checker
Even if you mispell the word you are looking for, Lexicon will offer you again the closest words or it will automatically correct the entry completely. This function is similar to the ones used in text editors. You can also write the word without diacritics.
Unknown sign completion
If you’re not sure about which sign, spelling or letter should be used at a certain position, you can always replace it with the star sign * or ? or . If you enter “man*ge” you will be shown the word “manage”
