Lingea Thesaurus
The Lingea Thesaurus or Dictionary of Synonyms (words with a similar or identical meaning that are interchangeable within a certain context) is an invaluable resource not only for the user but also as support for other programs such as the full text search function.
Users may use the Lingea Thesaurus in order to choose the right word in a text,so as not to repeat the same word in a text or use a foreign word when a perfectly adequate equivalent exists in their own language.
Thesaurus features
- The thesaurus contains headwords in alphabetical order and their most common synonym or in most cases synonyms
- The synonyms are arranged in order of similarity of meaning to the headword
- If appropriate synonyms are given with information on their usage
- If appropriate alternative spellings of synonyms are given
- The antonyms (words of opposite meaning) of all headwords are given
- In some language versions -hypernyms (words of broader meaning than the given word) and hyponyms (words of narrower meaning than the given word) are also given
