Lingea Lemmatiser
The Lingea Lemmatiser (also known as a stemmer) enables the user with the use of a morphological analyser to quickly ascertain the grammatical category (case, gender, tense etc.) of any given word.
Lemmatiser features
- The word's lemma (or base form) is shown and in addition several lemmas and grammatical categories are listed for many word forms. Thus the user can recognise any base form from of its inflected forms and vice versa
- This is an invaluable tool when working with languages with a high degree of inflection such as Czech, Russian or French for example in which a single citation or base form can have a large number of variants depending on tense, gender, case etc. In Czech for example there are more 6.7 million grammatically correct word forms! The Lingea Lemmatiser quickly and clearly helps the user to make the right choice.
- Using the basic two-way morphological analysis described above it is also possible for the user to specify which forms of the word (part of speech, tense etc.), are required and so restrict the search.
- It is also possible for the user to find all possible forms of a given word including compounds
- In the English language version where form is less of an issue the lemmatiser tool is used to provide vocabulary related to the given word in areas such as synonyms, prefixes, derived words, compounds, phrasal verbs etc.
The Lingea Lemmatiser is an integral part of a full text search function and is offered in a wide range of languages and for most platforms.
