About Lingea
Lingea has over 12 years of experience in developing language tools, electronic dictionaries and other
linguistic applications for different platforms, starting with online versions, ready-made applications for Windows,
Mac and Linux and also for Windows Mobile or iPhone. At the same time, Lingea prepares its own data and publishes
a large variety of dictionaries and other language publications for the Czech, Slovak, Polish and Romanian markets.
All of the above gives us extensive knowledge and understanding of language data, conversions of different data
formats and the development of electronic dictionaries. We have developed over 60 applications for our business partners,
which are sold worldwide. From the beginning of this year, we are expanding our services into the field of data licensing
as well as turnkey deliveries of ready-made titles.
Licensing
- Licensing the data and localizing it for selected markets This is a new service. Currently, we are able to prepare attractive and modern phrasebooks also containing grammar overview, useful tourist information and a mini-dictionary and of course phonetic transcription of all phrases and headwords.. Thanks to reduced development costs, you can also publish books for more exotic languages. At the moment, we have over 30 European and Asian languages prepared. On your request, we can send you printed books for different languages or prepare sample PDFs for a language of your choice. Apart from the printed books, we are also able to prepare electronic versions of these for all of the above mentioned platforms.
Data conversion
- Basic data conversions a very common problem for many publishers is the incompatibility of different data formats, which results from different ways of data preparation over the past years. Working with old and perhaps less compatible formats often results in less efficient work, is time-consuming and increases costs. A unified data format allows easier and faster preparation not only of printed titles but also of electronic versions for every platform (online, Windows, Mac or mobile devices).
- Checking and cleaning the data Lingea uses sophisticated tools which allow us to discover inconsistencies in the data, incorrect placement of the symbols, irrelevant references etc. We are able to analyse the data and provide feedback for your authors and editors, or to mark problematic parts of the data so that they can be fixed or removed promptly.
- We are able to prepare initial data for the development of different sizes of dictionaries, meaning: selection of frequent and suitable headwords, parts of speech identification, selection of examples according to dictionary size (pocket, school, large), phonetic transcriptions for 30 languages etc. All of these results in reduced costs and speeding up of the development in its initial phase, allowing authors to concentrate on processing the entries.
Typesetting
- Typesetting the books we have several years' experience in dictionary typesetting, our technology allows us to quickly create PDF files either for proofreading or for printing. That allows the authors to work to the last minute updating and finetuning the data. Thanks to our specialization, we are able to offer cheaper typesetting of dictionary data.
- Printing in case of your interest, we are also able to arrange printing of the books and their transport to a required destination. We are cooperating with printing companies in Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic and Poland. We are able to get the best price variant depending on the type of cover, book binding and other requirements.
Software
- Preparation of online version online versions of different dictionaries either free or paid are today common part of web pages about languages. It should be noted that most free dictionaries are usually not very good, but many people use them simply because current quality dictionaries are not available online which can also lead to a drop in sales of books or electronic versions. We are able to create and even host the application on a high-quality server for you as well.
- Creation of Windows applications this way offers wider possibilities than online versions, above all higher speed and better functionality. Very useful is our mouse-over function, after switching the application into minimized window mode, translation of words is displayed instantly after moving the cursor on a given word (without even clicking). This option is available in various applications (MS Office, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Acrobat Reader and others). We offer application development according to your requirements, or conversion of your data for our applications Lexicon 5 or EasyLex 2. - Mac OS X and Linux versions Lingea has system libraries which allow development of full native versions for the above platforms, making the applications faster and more stable during the installation and use.
- Creation of applications for Windows mobile, iPhone and Android dictionaries are very popular and highly demanded on mobile devices. Again, we are able to create an application based on your requirements or use our ready-made solution.
